The Callaway Youth Expo received a donation on Tuesday to go toward new facilities at the fairgrounds.

Callaway Bank provided $2,000, which is to be used for CYE's Building Project fund.

This fund will go toward constructing a new building for the CYE fairgrounds located in Auxvasse, which used to be the Lions Club grounds.

The current building houses the concession stand, restrooms and a storage area. This building was found to be beyond further repairs, and a new building was deemed necessary.

The fairgrounds hosts the county fair, as well as school and community activities such as horse shows and 4-H Club meetings.

Fundraising for the new facilities began in November. The goal of the project is $300,000.

A goal for the project was to raise $150,000 by April 15. Construction is estimated to begin in the fall.

The new building that will be constructed at the fairgrounds will house the the concession stand, a meeting room and other upgrades from the current building.

Kim Barnes, Callaway Bank President and CEO, said she hopes their donation will encourage others in the community to donate to the fund.

She said Callaway Bank supports the group every year, but that this was an additional donation to support them with an important project.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office also recently donated to the CYE.

The sheriff's office donated $735 to the fund. This money was raised from the CCSO's No-Shave November fundraiser.

"We are most excited to support this wonderful organization that supports so many youth across our great county," a Facebook post from the sheriff's office states.

CYE is also accepting donations of trade labor. Demolition, concrete, electrical and plumbing skills are all needed.

Tax-deductible donations for the project can be mailed to CYE Building Fund, 5803 County Rd. 302, Fulton, MO 65251.

The 2023 Callaway Youth Expo is scheduled for July 11-15. The 2022 expo featured activities across five days. Some of the activities include a dairy show, cornhole tournament and pie contest.
