Sheriff’s office makes three arrests, recovers stolen vehicles and firearm

Callaway County Sheriff's Office recently made a series of arrests during traffic stops which include recovering two stolen vehicles and a stolen firearm.

Desmond Hall was arrested on Aug. 19 after driving a stolen vehicle on Highway 54, according to a CCSO release.Hall had three active warrants for possessing a controlled substance, assault and violating probation. Hall is in the Callaway County Jail with no bond after being charged with tampering in the first degree.

Melonie Watkins was arrested during a traffic stop on Aug. 14. Watkins was driving a stolen vehicle on Interstate Highway 70 and was charged with tampering in the first degree. She remains in Callaway County Jail on $25,000 surety bond.

Joseph Cotton was arrested on Aug. 8 during a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, Cotton was found to be driving with a suspended license. Law enforcement also found Cotton was in possession of a stolen firearm. The firearm was discovered to originate from Madison, Illinois. Additionally, four prior felony convictions (including unlawful possession of a firearm) prevent Cotton from owning a firearm. Cotton is in custody of the Callaway County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing the firearm, and driving while suspended. He is held with a $100,000 bond.
