Number of Missouri hunters, anglers on the decline

The number of people who hunt and fish in Missouri is on a slow downward slide.

"Probably like just about every other state out there in the nation, our numbers have been declining for several years," said Eric Edwards, hunter and angler marketing specialist with Missouri Department of Conservation. "The 2000-2010 timeframe was kind of our peak. Since then, they've been slowly but steadily dropping."

Fulton baseball tops Hannibal to stay top of NCMC

The Fulton Hornets stay top of the North Central Missouri Conference thanks to a gem from their ace Dusty Hagens and outhitting the Hannibal Pirates 7-2.

Playing its second NCMC game in as many days, Fulton took down Hannibal 7-2 Friday at Darrell Davis Field.

Monday

Mid-MO players shine as WWU baseball drops two to MBU

Taking on the No. 8 Missouri Baptist Spartans, four mid-Missouri players on the William Woods Owls shined -- Hallsville's Alex Wimer, Jefferson City's Wyatt Fisher and Taylor Hopkins and Helias's Kaleb Haley.

Those four may have done well in Woods' doubleheader, but the Owls fell 1-0 in a seven-inning Game 1 and were run-ruled 15-5 in eight innings in Game 2 Saturday at Backer Sports Complex.

Fulton mayor, council member to be sworn in Tuesday

At Tuesday's Fulton City Council meeting, the newly-elected mayor and council members will take the oath of office and discuss several resolutions.

Incoming Mayor Steve Myers will be inducted as Lowe Cannell's replacement. In the April election, Myers won the Fulton mayoral race with 34.29 percent of the vote. Mike West received 29.59 percent, John Braun 21.94 percent and Steve Moore 14.18 percent.

Lauren Jungermann Agency celebrates with ribbon cutting

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Monday to celebrate the opening of Lauren Jungermann Agency LLC.

The business is run by Lauren Jungermann, who is an agent with American Family Insurance. It is located at 319 West 4th St.

Disaster Readiness Expo to be held in May

The first Callaway County Community Disaster Readiness Expo will take place in May, offering information and training on preparation for disasters.

The event will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Callaway Electric Cooperative. It is presented by Callaway County Emergency Management.

Wednesday

Open Table celebrates with ribbon cutting

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of Open Table, a new soup kitchen in Fulton.

Open Table hosted its first meal service on March 2. Meal service is offered for free every Monday and Thursday from 5-6 p.m. at the John C. Harris Community Center (350 Sycamore St.).

Students awarded Grow Your Own Scholarship

Three education majors at William Woods University were awarded the Grow Your Own Scholarship on Tuesday.

Hayden Ebersole, Bryce Warmbrodt and Josh Soltvedt are the recipients of the scholarship.

The Grow Your Own Scholarship is made in partnership with WWU and Fulton Public Schools.

Thursday

Fulton mayor, council members, city attorney sworn-in

At Tuesday's Fulton City Council meeting, the new mayor and other city officials took the oath of office in front of a full house.

Steve Myers was sworn-in as Mayor of Fulton, replacing Lowe Cannell. Prior to Myers getting sworn-in, Cannell gave a brief speech reflecting on his time in office. He thanked the council members and previous mayors he has worked with.

"You men and women show up every other Tuesday and put yourselves in the crosshairs, right along with me, and I appreciate that," Cannell said. "And I wish you nothing but the best."

Rotarian receives Scouting award

At Wednesday's Fulton Rotary Club meeting, a member was recognized with an award and the club heard from a local student who recently traveled to Tanzania.

Jacque Cowherd was awarded the Clifford L. Dochterman Award by representatives of the Boy Scouts of America.

Friday

Three sworn in to board of education

At Wednesday's Fulton Public Schools Board of Education meeting, three members were sworn-in including two incumbents and one new member.

Joe Davis and Connie Epperson were sworn-in for new terms after being reelected in the April election.

Newcomer Steven Medrow was sworn-in for his first term as a member of the board.

Fulton nonprofit focused on single mothers

A Fulton nonprofit would like to expand, but could use help from the community.

Faith Maternity Care of Mid-Missouri is reaching out to donors and volunteers they've never pursued.

An Alternatives 2 Abortion (A2A)-funded organization, Faith Maternity must spend its dollars on financially supporting women who are pregnant or 12 months past delivery with goals of education or a job.
