William Woods archery competes at 3D Regionals

William Woods' archery team competed Saturday and Sunday in Harrisburg, Illinois in the USA Archery - Collegiate Target Regionals - 3D and were among 84 athletes and five schools from across the Midwest.

USA Archery Collegiate 3D has eight divisions including Compound, Fixed Pins, Recurve and Barebow split by men and women. Within the Compound Division, the Owls' Tyklen Simmons placed 10th with a score of 389, 8 – 12's and Tyler Winslett had a score of 337. Within the Fixed Pins divisions, Felice Allen (131) and Chris Kempt (252, 4 - 12's) both took the field for the first time scoring their personal best on the range. Rounding out the weekend, Megan Bachard ended the weekend in fourth within the Barebow Division with a score of 111.

Sunday morning, Chris Kemps joined a Lindenwood female Fix Pins shooters to place sixth in the mixed team contest. Following a couple of discrepancies, the team made the choice to forfeit the Compound Team Competiton, as Woods did not have a full team.

"We took this weekend as a huge learning experience," William Woods coach Taylor Bryant said. "Many of our members have not shot competitively in years or at all. Plus, we had a couple of discrepancies within the rules within the different divisions. We are thankful other seasoned coaches and shooters were able to provide us feedback over the weekend. The Owls are excited to adjust and move into the rest of the season."

William Woods will not be traveling to 3D Nationals this year due to prior commitments. The team is looking forward to transitioning to indoor competition. Woods hosts the next contest on Oct. 29 at United Sportsman Club.
