New Bloomfield baseball loses lead early in defeat

New Bloomfield baseball fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-0 loss to New Franklin Monday in New Bloomfield. The Bulldogs scored on a single by Tanner Bishop and a single by Connor Wilmsmeyer in the first inning.

The Wildcats struggled to contain the high-powered offense of New Franklin, giving up 10 runs.

The Bulldogs opened up scoring in the first inning, when Bishop singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

A double by Gavin Thomas in the second inning was a positive for New Bloomfield.

Jake Marshall pitched New Franklin to victory. The pitcher went five innings, allowing no runs on three hits, striking out five and walking one.

Brendon Carter took the loss for the Wildcats. The pitcher allowed four hits and four runs over one inning, striking out three.

Thomas, Dorian Meyer and Wyatt Jordan each managed one hit to lead New Bloomfield.

The Bulldogs tallied 11 hits in the game. Wilmsmeyer, Ryan Hundley, Bishop and Owen Armentrout all collected multiple hits for New Franklin. Wilmsmeyer went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs in hits.

Next up, New Bloomfield (5-8) will play Sturgeon (3-7) at 5 p.m. Friday in Sturgeon.
