William Woods women’s soccer drops match against No. 14 John Brown

William Woods women's soccer just couldn't do much of anything against one of the NAIA's best teams, losing 8-0 against No. 14 John Brown Saturday in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

The Owls' two goalkeepers -- Michyla Handley and Wilson Hornsby -- were the one positive, combining for 14 saves on 22 Golden Eagles shots on goal. Handley stopped 12 shots, while Hornsby stopped both shots she faced in the final 7:50 of the match -- it was Hornsby's first collegiate appearance as a goalkeeper.

John Brown scored four goals in each half of Saturday's contest.

In the first half, the Golden Eagles' Renny Buchanan netted the first 39 seconds into the match, scoring from a rebound off a corner kick that was deflected by the Owl's goalkeeper. Lauren Walter took an Elise Bosma pass through the back line and slotted the shot home John Brown's second goal at 6:34.

The Golden Eagles' third goal was scored by Kaelyn Mole, who took a beautifully squared pass from Pam Seiler for an open shot on goal. Mole turned provider for the final goal of the first half, which was scored by Karen Flores on a ripped shot from 16 yards off the crossbar at 34:02.

Finishing off a brace and scoring John Brown's first goal in the second half was Walter, who scored off a turnover at 54:01. Just 19 seconds later, the Golden Eagles' Bosma took a Walter pass from the left side and scored from the middle of the pitch.

Scoring John Brown's final two goals of the match was Seiler, who fired in a rebound off Gifte Pavatt's shot (Pavatt earned the assist) and made it 7-0 at 62:12. Only five seconds later, Pavatt assisted Seiler's second which made it back-to-back assists and goals, respectively for the pair.

The Owls' Lexi Drbul and Abby Prather-Turner put the team's only two shots on goal.

William Woods (3-6-1) will open American Midwest Conference play with a match against Central Baptist College (4-5-1) at noon Saturday in Conway, Arkansas.
