New Bloomfield softball finishes fourth in AA Softball Tournament

New Bloomfield placed fourth in the AA Softball Tournament after falling to Russellville 3-2 and Southern Boone 9-4 in the third-place game Saturday in Russellville.

In the game against Russellville, both teams were strong in the circle but Russellville was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Lady Wildcats. Avarie Edwards started the game for New Bloomfield and recorded 13 outs.

The Lady Indians got on the board in the first inning when Josie Stewart doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

Russellville pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. In the third Stewart singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Campbell Backues led the Lady Indians to victory on the rubber. The right-hander lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three.

Edwards was in the pitcher's circle for the Lady Wildcats. The hurler lasted 4 ⅓ innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Peityn Thomas threw 1 ⅔ innings in relief out of the bullpen.

New Bloomfield hit one home run in the game. Macie Abbott went deep in the third inning.

Ashlyn Peters, Myah Briggs, Abbott and Thomas each collected one hit to lead the Lady Wildcats.

Russellville scattered six hits in the game. Cali Coombs and Stewart each had multiple hits for the Lady Indians.

At the time of publication, a box score was unavailable for New Bloomfield's game against Southern Boone.

New Bloomfield had a 2-0 lead after the first inning, then the game was tied at 4-4 heading into the fifth before the Eagles took the lead.

Up next, New Bloomfield (10-7) will play Tolton (10-8) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Columbia.
