Calwood ready for upcoming mutton BBQ

Calwood is preparing for the annual Calwood Mutton BBQ.

This is the 42nd annual BBQ, and it will take place on Oct. 1. Events will begin at noon and last until 7 p.m.

The BBQ will take place at the Edith Benskin Memorial Community in Calwood, located 6.5 miles east of Fulton on Route Z.

The main event of the BBQ is the mutton, which is all you can eat. Carryout is also offered. Other food will be available, such as pork steaks and hot dogs. Homemade desserts and sides will be available as well.

Mutton and the other food options are only available while supplies last, so make sure to get there early.

The Callwood Mutton BBQ is the final event in the Callaway County Mutton Trail, which is a series of events throughout the summer and fall relating to mutton. The Trail started with the Fulton Street Fair in June, followed by the Mokane Worlds Fair on Labor Day weekend.

The upcoming Tebbetts Picnic and Muttonfest is also included in the Mutton Trail. This event will take place this coming weekend.
