William Woods women’s soccer wins third straight, beats Iowa Wesleyan

William Woods women's soccer continued its strong play in recent games by defeating Iowa Wesleyan 2-1 Saturday in Fulton.

The Owls' attack has been on fire of late, netting at least two goals in the last four matches.

Lauren Helmert scored her second goal this week and Woods' first against the Tigers in the ninth minute.

Helmert turned provider for the Owls' second goal, which was scored by Sydney Balducci in the 65th minute.

Woods goalkeeper Michyla Handley prevented Iowa Wesleyan from scoring for 89 minutes before the Tigers' Ana Medina-Suazo netted a goal in the 90th minute. Jacqueline Ivers was credited with the assist.

Overall, Woods' shot advantage was too much for Iowa Wesleyan. The Owls outshot the Tigers 20 (five shots on goal) to seven (three).

Up next, William Woods (3-4-1) will play Oakland City (2-1-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Fulton.
