Girl Scouts to host Tents, Toasts getaway for women

A Girl Scouts fundraising event specially catered to support women in the outdoors is happening soon.

Girl Scouts is always thinking of new ways of getting involved in the community and sharing the love of Girl Scouting, scout officials said.

Tents and Toasts, will be a weekend in the great outdoors with a wine tasting and live music. The event is for women, at least age 21, who want to gather with friends while supporting female ambition.

Tents and Toasts will take place Sept. 24 and 25, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and ending at 11 a.m. Sunday at Sliver Meadows Girl Scouts Camp, 300 E. Pinnacle Road, in Sturgeon.

Lauren Slamb, public relations specialist for Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland, said the event is something Girl Scouts would like to do annually.

All of the proceeds raised will go to Girl Scouts, she said. The event is for adults only and catered toward women.

Women will have the choice of adventure they'd like to have, such as testing their outdoor skills, taking a guided hike, crafting something inspired by nature, or simply enjoying the beautiful camp setting and relaxing by the fire with a drink.

It's a time to connect and disconnect, Slamb said. All the equipment has been taken care of by Girl Scouts.

Slamb said one of the their community engagement specialists came up with the idea for the event.

The support from the community helps build the next generation of female leaders through Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland, she said. Every ticket purchased will allow Girl Scouts to try new things, grow her own network of friends and build confidence that will last a lifetime.

"The idea was to get more people involved in the community to donate to Girl Scouts and give back to them in a way that would touch on their past Girl Scout experiences," she said.

This is the first year for the event. There will also be a pancake breakfast, which will start at 8:30 a.m. There will also be presentations about the impact of people's generosity on the next generation of women leaders.

Reservations, which will include overnight accommodations inside a glamorized tent, also include gourmet camp fare Saturday evening (with s'mores), a delicious breakfast Sunday morning, and all the beverages and snacks during the weekend outdoors.

From to 2-5 p.m., people have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities -- or relax and chat.

The welcome reception in the lodge will be from 5-6 p.m. which includes wine tasting, live music, and a silent auction.

The evening dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by campfire songs, s'mores and stargazing.

Sunday kicks off with early morning meditation and yoga as well as a morning hike.

Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.
