The first National Cinema Day will offer movie tickets at local theaters Saturday for a fraction of the normal cost.

Tickets at movie theaters across the country will sell tickets for only $3 Saturday.

This day was chosen as National Cinema Day because Labor Day weekend has historically been considered one of the slowest weekends of the year for movie theaters. This day seeks to encourage families and individuals to see a movie during the Labor Day weekend.

National Cinema Day was announced by The Cinema Foundation, a nonprofit organization that is an extension of the National Association of Theater Owners.

The news release by The Cinema Foundation states more than 3,000 locations will participate in National Cinema Day, with more than 30,000 screens showing films at the discounted rate.

In addition to the $3 tickets, an exclusive sizzle reel of previews for upcoming movies will be shown before all the showings.

Major movie theater chains including AMC and Regal Cinemas are participating, but so is Fulton's Cinema 8 theater.

In celebration of National Cinema Day, Cinema 8 and other theaters will be showing a re-release of "Spider-Man: No Way Home." All movie screenings will be $3, excluding tax.

Other local theaters participating include the GQT Capital 8 in Jefferson City, as well as Regal Cinema and GQT Forum 8 in Columbia.
