New Bloomfield baseball loses lead early in defeat

New Bloomfield baseball watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 6-4 loss to Vienna Wednesday in New Bloomfield.

The Eagles scored on an error and a walk by Gavin Schwartze in the first inning.

The Wildcats lost despite out-hitting Vienna nine to five.

In the first inning, the Eagles got their offense started. An error scored two runs for Vienna.

The Eagles scored three runs in the sixth inning. Eli Hayes, Troy Wulff and Tanner Nichols powered the big inning with RBI.

Nichols led Vienna to victory on the hill. The pitcher surrendered one run on two hits over 3 ⅓ innings, striking out one and walking one. Landon Kloeppel threw 2 ⅓ innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Braden Jackson took the loss for New Bloomfield. The pitcher allowed three hits and five runs over 4 ⅓ innings, striking out five.

Will Veasman started the game for the Eagles. Veasman surrendered one run on two hits over 1 ⅓ inning, striking out one.

The Wildcats collected nine hits on the day. Wyatt Jordan, Chase Bailey and Andrew Fouch each collected multiple hits for New Bloomfield. Fouch, Bailey and Jordan all had two hits to lead the Wildcats.

Hayes led Vienna with two hits in four at-bats.

Up next, New Bloomfield (7-9) will play Tuscumbia (3-10) at 5 p.m. Friday in Tuscumbia.
