4-hit day for Jackson as New Bloomfield baseball skirts past Otterville

Braden Jackson came to the ballpark and meant business Tuesday in New Bloomfield, tallying four hits and leading New Bloomfield to a 17-6 win against Otterville.

Jackson singled in the first, singled in the third, doubled in the third and singled in the fourth.

There was plenty of action on the basepaths as the Wildcats collected 13 hits and the Eagles had eight.

New Bloomfield took an early lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for the Wildcats.

New Bloomfield took the lead for good with eight runs in the third inning. In the third Dorian Meyer singled on an 0-1 count, scoring two runs, an error scored one run for the Wildcats, Andrew Fouch drew a walk, scoring one run, Jackson doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs and Michael Leason singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Leason earned the win for New Bloomfield. Leason allowed seven hits and six runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking one. Eli Bailey threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Gabe Berry took the loss for Otterville. The hurler lasted 2 ⅓ innings, allowing seven hits and ten runs while striking out two.

The Wildcats totaled 13 hits. Jackson, Chase Bailey, Wyatt Jordan and Gavin Thomas all had multiple hits for New Bloomfield. Jackson led the Wildcats with four hits in four at-bats.

Owen Birk went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Eagles in hits.

Up next, New Bloomfield (7-8) will play Vienna (8-11) at 5 p.m. today in New Bloomfield.
