With October here, it is time for cooler weather and annual fall festivities.
There are some corn mazes in the local area that have already opened for the season. Shryocks Callaway Farms corn maze will be open until Nov. 6, and is open on the weekends. The theme for this year's maze is "Pak-Maze," and is themed after Pac-Man.
Another corn maze is located at Fischer Farms, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. It has a corn maze, straw maze, hayrides and pumpkins available at the farm.
On Oct. 8, the Callaway County United Way has a murder mystery dinner at the Playhouse Theater. The theme for the event is the 1980s. Each ticket includes dinner and an adult drink, and there will also be a cash bar and raffles. Tickets can be purchased online at the Callaway County United Way's website.
Later in October, SERVE, Inc. is back with its Halloween Charity Ball. This adult-only event will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22. There will be a costume contest for cash prizes, as well as a photo booth. The funds raised from the event will go towards helping to support SERVE. Tickets to the event can be purchased online at SERVE's website.
Callaway Cares is hosting its inaugural Phantom Field Haunted Hayride at Red Maples. The event will begin Oct. 28 and run through Oct. 30. There will be a hayride, food trucks and games available. All proceeds raised will go towards the Callaway Cares Street Outreach Program. Tickets can be purchased at the event
Around Halloween, there are plenty of trick-or-treating opportunities for kids in the local area. Fulton Police Department and Callaway Dreams are hosting a trunk-or-treat Oct. 22 at the Fulton Fairgrounds. The event will run from 4-6 p.m. This event is $1 per person, with the funds going towards Shop With a Hero, which gives underprivileged children in Callaway County gifts for Christmas. Any business, family or individual is invited to set up a trunk or table with candy.
The Holts Summit Police Department is also hosting a trunk-or-treat for Halloween. This will take place from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29 at the police department.
The Fulton Brick District is hosting Trick-or-Treat on the Bricks on Halloween from 4-6 p.m.
