South Callaway High School is holding a dance fundraiser to help students complete community service projects.

The event is sponsored by South Callaway High School's Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

FCCLA, which is a national career and technical student organization, helps students become career leaders in their homes, schools, communities and careers alongside the family consumer sciences curriculum.

There are 47 chapter members led by Tara Vignola, the South Callaway family and consumer sciences teacher.

This year, since the COVID-19 pandemic has eased, students wanted to do a more family-oriented event where a lot of people could get involved with the fundraiser. Last year, a pie fundraiser was done by FCS students.

This year, they are planning a Pretty Princess Dance from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the South Callaway High School Commons.

The main goal is to get as many family members included in the event, said Rylie Blankenship, South Callaway High School senior.

Refreshments, party favors and photo opportunities with live princesses will be provided. There will also be Disney music playing at the dance.

Children 3 to 11 years old can attend the event. They must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years or older.

The cost is $20 at the door. All of the money raised goes toward service projects the class does.

The event gives an opportunity for families to do things together, added Alyssa Rehagen, South Callaway High School senior.

"We're hoping to make this an annual event," Vignola said.
