New Bloomfield girls basketball falls to California in Tipton Tournament

In its first pool play game in the Tipton Tournament, No. 5 seed New Bloomfield girls basketball lost 81-36 against No. 2 seed California Monday night in Tipton.

The Lady Pintos outscored the Lady Wildcats in all four quarters -- 28-6, 19-15, 25-11 and 9-4.

New Bloomfield's leading scorers were Brooklynn Smith with nine points and Macie Abbott and Avery Nichols with eight points each.

Lauren Friederich led California's offense, scoring 29 points.

"We had lots of trouble with their size and speed," New Bloomfield coach Brett Craighead said. "They sped us up and made us rush on offense."

The No. 5 seed Lady Wildcats (1-2) will face No. 3 Eldon (1-1) in their final pool play game of the Tipton Tournament at 7 p.m. tonight in Tipton.
