Fulton man wanted after weekend shooting

A Fulton man has been identified as a suspect for a shooting that took place over the weekend in Hartsburg.

Dustin Higgins, 33, of Fulton, is wanted by the Boone County Sheriff's Office for his connection to the shooting and assault. The Boone County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has filed two charges against Higgins, assault (1st degree) and armed criminal action. Higgins also has a no bond warrant for his arrest.

On Saturday, Nov. 26, at approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies with the Boone County Sheriff's Office responded to a report that someone had been shot at the 16000 block of South James Sapp Rd. in Hartsburg. Upon arrival, deputies found one male victim. He was likely shot at a nearby residence, according to a release.

The sheriff's office does not believe this was a random assault.

The whereabouts of Higgins are currently unknown, according to a Boone County Sheriff's Office release. The sheriff's office does not believe he poses "a specific threat to the general public," but encourages the public to not approach Higgins. The investigation is ongoing.
