New Bloomfield schools gets new oven, book vending machine

New Bloomfield School District has received a new oven and is in the process of getting a book vending machine at the elementary school.

New Bloomfield School District received a new oven for its school's kitchen after applying for a heavy equipment grant over the summer.

The district said it received the new oven on Monday.

The oven cost was $23,000 and included costs such as labor, installation and removal of the old oven.

The school kitchen has previously purchased steamers, warmers and new dish washers as its kitchens at the district have improved over the years.

Jennifer Fletcher, Elementary School Principal, said one of the things on the to-do list for next year is to get a new reading program.

One of the exciting things coming to the elementary school is a book vending machine, Fletcher said.

"It's just like a candy or soda machine except there are books in there," she said. "We are very excited about that."

The book vending machine will be used for incentives and rewards. It will be used for students to work toward and earn.

Each student who earns a book gets a token to use on the vending machine where the student can choose any book they want.

Students who receive a book from the vending machine will own a book.

Books are at reading levels from pre-school through six grade.

The vending machine will be located by the office where everyone can see it when they walk into the school, she said.
