The annual Red Kettle Campaign with the Callaway County Salvation Army is beginning today for the holiday season.

Volunteers with the Salvation Army will be at the Fulton Moser's Grocery and Walmart to accept donations. They will be ringing bells every Friday and Saturday from now through Christmas Eve, according to a press release.

Volunteers are needed to help ring bells. Those interested in volunteering can find more information on the group's Facebook page. Each shift is two hours long.

85 cent of every dollar donated to the Red Kettle Campaign will stay in Callaway County, according to a press release. These funds will be distributed through SERVE, and will help local families pay their utility bills and purchase prescription drugs.

The Salvation Army is not a federal program, which means the group does not have to follow federal guidelines for people to qualify for assistance, according to a press release. 158 families -- which includes 364 people -- have been helped by the Callaway County Salvation Army this year.

The Callaway County Salvation Army also sponsors the Field of Joy event at Veterans Park. 142 tress have been sponsored this year and can be viewed at Murphy's Field, according to a press release. The Grand Lighting Ceremony will be Thursday, Dec. 1, at 5:30 p.m. A Salvation Army canteen truck will be there with free cookies and hot chocolate, according to a press release.
