Columbia man hurt in sideswipe accident

A Columbia man was treated for minor injuries Sunday after being sideswiped in Callaway County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Carl Brizendine, 52, of Columbia, was driving a 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage westbound on Interstate 70, when at 5:39 p.m., near the 149.2-mile marker, his vehicle was sideswiped by an unknown driver, causing it to travel into the median and strike the cable barrier as the other vehicle continued westbound along the highway.

Brizendine's Mitsubishi received extensive damage, and he received minor injuries. He was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia.

Separately, a motorcyclist was moderately injured Sunday after striking a deer in Miller County, the patrol reports.

Christopher Atkisson, 45, of Kaiser, was driving a 2009 Kawasaki Ninja southbound on Route D. He struck a deer and was ejected from the motorcycle about 9:40 p.m. at Oak Bend Road.

Atkisson, who was not wearing a helmet, received moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.
