Leeper, Southeast Missouri win OVC Tournament baseball title

South Callaway graduate Peyton Leeper is going to play in the NCAA Regionals.

The Southeast Missouri baseball team won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday in Lexington, Ky., beating top-seeded Belmont 5-4 in 10 innings in the championship game.

As the OVC Tournament champion, Southeast Missouri earns an automatic bid as one of 64 teams to play in the NCAA Regionals. The tournament field will be announced at 11 a.m. Monday on ESPNU.

Leeper, who batted seventh and played third base for the Redhawks, went 2-for-4 at the plate. His RBI single to right-center field in the top of the seventh inning tied the score at 1.

Southeast Missouri scored three runs in the top of the 10th and only allowed two runs in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.

Leeper has played in 55 games this season, starting in 52 contests. He is batting .229 (43-for-188) with six home runs, 29 RBI and 44 runs scored.

Southeast Missouri, which was the No. 2 seed in the OVC Tournament, has a 37-20 record after Saturday’s win.
