JEFFERSON CITY -- Fulton freshman Emmy Begemann got her first experience of the Class 4 track and field state championships Saturday at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins stadium.

Begemann finished in 16th place in the girls triple jump, recording a top distance of 31 feet, 11.25 inches.

Begemann jumped 31-4.5 and 31-8.5 on her other two attempts during the preliminaries. Only the top nine advanced to the final, as the cut to make the final was 34-4.75.

Kearney junior Ava Lawless won the state title in the triple jump with a distance of 37-11.5.

Earlier this month, Begemann took third place in the District 2 meet at North Point High School in Wentzville with a jump of 33-1.25, her personal-best in the event. She qualified for state with a third-place jump of 33-0.25 in last Monday’s Sectional 2 meet at Mexico.
