North Callaway’s Crum finishes 21st at state golf tourney

North Callaway senior Thomas Crum didn’t come out as an all-state golfer, but he was better than a year ago.

Crum finished tied for 21st Tuesday at the Class 2 state golf tournament at Columbia Country Club to miss the cut for all-state after finishing within the coveted top 15 on Monday.

A year ago at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Crum shot a two-day score of 187 to tie for 40th place. This year, he finished with a score of 175 to take 21st along with four other golfers.

Crum finished tied for 14th after shooting an 86. He had three triple-bogeys on the front nine, for an 11-over par, before collecting six pars on the back nine for a 4-over par on the latter nine holes.

Crum cut down on his multi-bogeys during Tuesday’s round but had more results of at least a bogey as he finished with 12 compared with eight on Day 1 to finish with a Day 2 score of 89.

He began Tuesday with a triple-bogey on the first hole’s par five and had another on the fifth hole’s par four but sprinkled in three pars for a 10-over par on the front nine. He then bogeyed six out of the final seven holes on the back nine and tallied three pars on the back nine for an 8-over par.

Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl won an individual title after finishing with a 148, 6-over par. He shot a 70 on Day 1 to fall one-under par after Monday.

California won the team state title after shooting a 671, winning by 11 strokes. The Pintos had two all-state golfers in fourth-place Will Boyd and his 153 and ninth-place Ayden Howard and his 169.
