William Woods University President Jeremy Moreland has announced the appointment of Tiffany Nolan, of Columbia, as the university's vice president of student life.

Nolan will replace Carrie McCray, a member of the WWU faculty who had been filling the position on an interim basis. The appointment is effective May 31.

Nolan joins the WWU administration with 20 years of experience working and leading a variety of student affairs and academic programs, serving at mid-sized, public institutions and small, private liberal arts universities.

In her new cabinet-level role at WWU, she will have responsibility for student development and serve as a contributing member of ongoing campus student retention efforts.

Nolan will provide leadership and management in the areas of responsibility that fall under student life, including residential life, career services and student transition, student involvement, counseling and health services, university chaplain, center for ethics and global studies, office of faith and service, LEAD program, diversity and inclusion, and campus safety.

Nolan comes to WWU from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, where she serves as director of grants and sponsored research.

Her experience includes serving as director of institutional effectiveness and strategic planning at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, vice president for student success and engagement at Quincy (Illinois) University from 2009-16 and assistant vice president and dean of students from 2006-09 at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa

"We are fortunate to have an accomplished student life professional of Dr. Nolan's caliber joining our leadership team here at William Woods," Moreland said. "Her extensive knowledge and experience in student success and retention initiatives, high-impact student life practices, student engagement and leadership development will be an asset in ensuring the best possible college experience for our William Woods students.

"I also want to express my deep appreciation for Carrie McCray, whose service to William Woods as interim vice president of student life during a particularly challenging time allowed the university to continue to move forward in the critical area of student experience," he said.

Nolan, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Nebraska, a master's degree in education from Clemson University, and a doctorate degree in education, adults and higher education from the University of South Dakota.

She is pursuing a second master's degree, in Public Affairs, from the University of Missouri.
