The high school basketball championships are returning to Columbia.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association announced Wednesday the basketball championships in all six classes will be played at Mizzou Arena and the Hearnes Center, starting with the 2023-24 school year. The contract will continue through the 2028-29 school year.

The championships have been played in Springfield since the 2017-18 school year. Springfield also bid to continue to host the championships.

The MSHSAA board also approved the boys wrestling championships at Mizzou Arena and the cross country championships at the Grans Creek Recreational Facility will also remain in Columbia through the 2028-29 school year.

It had been announced earlier this year the girls wrestling championships will be held this school year at Central Missouri in Warrensburg, the week prior to the boys championships. The board has authorized the staff to continue discussions with Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City to possibly host the championships in the future.

The board also voted for the volleyball championships to be held at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau through the 2024-25 school year. Staff members have been authorized to make a visit to St. Joseph Civic Arena for the potential of hosting for three years, starting with the 2025-26 season.
