William Woods ties for 81st in Learfield Directors’ Cup

William Woods finished tied for 81st in the NAIA division of the 2021-22 Learfield Directors’ Cup, notching 197.5 points.

William Woods picked up the majority of its points in the spring season, recording 125. The Owls women’s outdoor track and field team earned 50 points, tying for 23rd place at last month’s NAIA national championships, while softball (31st), men’s tennis (17th) and women’s tennis (17th) notched 25 points each.

Both William Woods tennis teams lost in the first round of the NAIA national championships, while the softball team went 0-2 in the Opening Round of the NAIA national championships.

The Owls were the third-best American Midwest Conference school in the Directors’ Cup standings, finishing behind Columbia College and Missouri Baptist.

The top AMC school in the Directors’ Cup standings was Columbia College, which placed 46th with 368.5 points. Missouri Baptist had the second-best finish in the conference, registering 320 points to finish 59th.

The William Woods women’s cross country team posted 44 points in the fall, while the women’s indoor track and field team notched 28.5 points during the winter season for the Owls.

Indiana Wesleyan took home its first Directors’ Cup with 890 overall points. The Wildcats registered 372 points in the winter, 300 in the spring and 218 in the fall.
