William Woods’ Schneider, Cooke claim men’s tennis honors

William Woods’ Vaclav Schneider and Nathan Cooke were named in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s men’s tennis Central Region Awards, which were  announced Thursday.

Schneider was named ITA Rookie of the Year, while Cooke earned ITA Most Improved Senior.

In his first season with the Owls, Schneider went 11-8 in singles play and 15-6 in doubles matches.

Schneider won 11 straight singles matches and 13 consecutive in doubles play to end his freshman campaign.

The ITA Rookie of the Year accolade was Schneider’s third award he earned this season. He was also named in the American Midwest Conference/Heart of America Athletic Conference singles first team and doubles first team.

William Woods’ Cooke went 13-12 in singles play and 21-12 in doubles play in his final collegiate season.

Cooke had a dominant doubles stretch from March 9-26, winning seven straight matches. His first two wins in that run were against Top 25 teams on back-to-back days — No. 13 Cumberlands on March 9 and No. 10 Lindsey Wilson on March 10.

The Owls’ Cooke was also named to the AMC/Heart singles second team and doubles second team.
