Why does the Gillian's Island sitcom come to my mind?

A couple weeks ago we got up and rushed around getting our work done around the house, so we could begin our day's adventure ride. It turned out more of an adventure than we ever imagined.

Before we could decide where we were going, suddenly David asked me to call an ambulance. I was baffled because although he has had some ambulance rides, it wasn't his choice. I didn't know what was happening.

I called 911 and we had help in a matter of moments. They asked where we wanted to go and we told them Boone Hospital in Columbia. Our son Eric arrived and he drove me, following the ambulance.

They immediately took steps at the hospital taking tests and came back to explain he had serious problems that only The University of Kansas Hospital could handle. Barnes in St Louis was the only other place qualified for the very difficult surgery he needed and they were full.

They had discovered his aorta stent, put in years ago, had slipped and was bulging and leaking. They were afraid it may burst during an ambulance ride and that would mean death. So, David got his first time of flying high.

The people who came and got him in the helicopter were amazing. So friendly, so professional and comforting in every way. Eric asked them if mom should ride with. The pilot said no and I was relieved. So away they went. It was getting very late by this time, so we went back home. The helicopter pilot called me as soon as he got David there and settled in.

The next morning early, Eric, Brandon Flowers, and I headed for KU. It was a bad situation. Not Fentanyl or anything could stop his pain.

I will try to make a long story short, since I am writing this on my phone. We are still at the hospital. The kids came, Randy, and our son Daniel from Tennessee, and we have built the time around their daddy. Our friend and neighbor Barbara is taking care of our house, mail, flowers and garden. Brandon Flowers, Brother Steve Bode and Linda, have been here for support as always. One of David's best medicines was when our Grandson Kirt and Alecia brought our great-grandsons by. There were so many people praying and texting, it is humbling. Thank you all.

Our kids have been outstanding throughout this ordeal. They paid for all my meals while here, bought me clothes and everything they think we might need. The surgery went well, and David probably has set a record by his 23 stents.

We are still here and still have issues, but are in the healing process, and treated very nice. The reason I thought of the series about Gillian's Island was that they, like us, set out on a three-day trip, which hasn't come to an end yet.

I didn't bring my laptop because I thought I would be home in time to do my newspaper story. So, I wrote this continuing adventure on my phone.
