South Callaway School District has purchased a new bus.

Corey Pontius, superintendent at South Callaway School District, said the district approved the purchase of one bus from Midwest Bus Sales, INC for $145,644. It was approved during this month's board of education of meeting.

The bus has 77 passenger seats inside.

Other school districts have approved bus purchases this year such as Fulton Public Schools and North Callaway R1 School District.

Fulton School District approved a trade-in and purchase for two new buses from Midwest Transit Equipment totaling $233,864.

Ty Crain, superintendent at Fulton Public Schools, said the district hoped to have the new buses by Christmas.

Fulton's new buses were purchased from Midwest Transit Equipment for a new 2023 77-passenger bus with a purchase price of $113,867 and a 71-passenger 2023 bus with a purchase price of $122,997.

North Callaway Schools accepted a grant this year that funded $20,000 each toward the purchase for two replacement school buses from 2017 or later.

North Callaway was one of 11 Missouri school districts that received a total of $535,000 in school bus rebate opportunities to replace 26 older buses through the 2021 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) school bus rebates.

The rebate awards are EPA's latest round of funding for longstanding DERA school bus rebates. This year's program awards approximately $10 million to fund the replacement of old diesel school buses with new electric, diesel, gasoline, propane or compressed natural gas school buses meeting current emission standards.
