The University of Missouri alumni in Callaway County are on the prowl for Tiger toys to make the holiday season happier for children in need.

The Callaway County Chapter of the Mizzou Alumni Association started collecting Tiger toys to give away in 2001, and it has become a holiday tradition.

The toys are donated to children through Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA) in Fulton. This year, like the past two years, the toys will be provided to children at Callaway Head Start, which is part of CMCA.

According to chapter president Michele Atkinson, 50 toys were donated last year.

She said Tiger-related items are encouraged, but other toys are accepted, including stuffed animals, games, toys and books.

The annual toy drive ran from the beginning of December through Wednesday.

Over 100 toys were collected this year. There are 31 students enrolled at Callaway Head Start.

There were two different locations to donate at. Shively Books and Associates, CPAs, LLC in Fulton and Lori Branch State Farm Office in Holts Summit were the two locations.

"So many families are really struggling. The kids love the Tiger toys and we really appreciate the assistance," said Kellie Pontius, CMCA community organizer.
