Dr. Jeremy Moreland was inaugurated Thursday as William Woods University’s 13th president.
The ceremony at Cutlip Auditorium had many guest speakers, such as faculty and the mayor of Fulton.
“His energy is contagious, and I’m quite sure it has broken off on the staff and students here at the campus,” Fulton mayor Lowe Cannell said during the ceremony. “I look forward to seeing what the future holds for William Woods, and of course I’m excited to be working with you, Dr. Moreland. On behalf of the city of Fulton, I congratulate you. My door is always open and we’re ready to begin this journey together.”
Romaine Seguin, chair of the Board of Trustees, presented Moreland with the presidential medallion.
“Thank you for this incredible honor, just for the opportunity to join this community,” Moreland said.
As the university president, he said he will work to expand the university’s standing reputation, and serve the region and beyond. Moreland said he would like to lead William Woods into the future that includes a commitment to academic opportunity, enrollment growth and fiscal health of the university.
Moreland said he would like to serve the needs of students of today and tomorrow.
The university also has plans to move forward with the first Ph.D program, he said.
“I will continue to approach every day as a new opportunity to seek excellence and to seek joy in everything we do while reaching our full potential as a university,” Moreland said. “At William Woods University, we will continue to build a community, a rigorous, questioning, searching and discovering learning community established to strive for the betterment of society and the world.”
