William Woods golf finishes fall with home wins

William Woods concluded the fall golf season with victories from the men and women.

The teams had home greens Monday and Tuesday during the WWU Fall Invitational at Tanglewood Golf Course as the men, led by first-place Logan Smith, finished with a 585 to beat Central Methodist by 13 strokes, and the women, led by top individual Maria Zrodowska, had a 613 to best Central Methodist by 25 strokes.

Smith had the lowest round two score, shooting a 68, after a day one that saw him tied for first with Missouri Valley's Andres Rueda de Leon after shooting a 73. Smith's six birdies and only one double bogey propelled him to a four-stroke victory and a two-day score of 141, or three-under.

Philipp Heller and Jakub Dymecki tied for second after each shot a 71 in round two and finished with a two-day score of 145. Shane Brosenne tied for sixth with a 149, including a 71 and six birdies on day two, to lead the William Woods "B" team to a fourth-place finish with a 628.

Zrodowska led the women's competition by one stroke after a rainy and windy first day and held off Central Methodist's Cassandra Contreras by two strokes after the 71 she shot on day two. She had three birdies and only two bogeys.

Paige Hawkins moved up one spot after day one after shooting a 71 on day two to finish in third with a 150. Krystal Burgtorf was behind her in fourth after shooting a 76 on the second day and a 150 after two days. Victoria Hooker and Jennah Schell tied for eighth after each shooting a 165.
