The Westminster men were knocking on the door Saturday, but no one answered. Until late.
The Blue Jays were dishing out all the shots in its Senior Day game against Eureka, collecting 22 shots and 14 shots on goal compared with the seven and four for the Red Devils, and one finally scored in the 84th minute to give Westminster the 1-0 victory.
Goalkeeper Toby Hughes, who stopped four shots on the day, put things in motion as he punted a ball over the Eureka defense where it was found by Mustekbel Shoune and put past the keeper for his second goal of the season.
Eureka (0-10, 0-8 SLIAC) only managed one shot in the first half and no corner kicks in the 90 minutes played. Westminster (3-7-2, 3-4-1 SLIAC), on the other hand, had nine shots in the period. Three of the team's seniors - Andrew Sprengel, Joe Wilder and Barrett Smith - had shots on goal that were turned away by Eureka goalkeeper Isaac Hughes, who had 10 saves
Sprengel stayed active in the second half with his four shots on goal, and Smith would record one as well. The successful Shoune shot happended about a minute after Eureka's third shot on goal.
Sprengel led everyone with six shots and five shots on goal while Smith had two shots on goal. Niklas Olsson finished with two shots on goal.
Westminster will travel for a 6 p.m. Tuesday game against Principia.
