Softball: North Callaway tops Mark Twain 4-1

Ladybird seniors Ryelle Schmauch, Mackenzie Eaker and Kyanne Kellerman are about at the end of their high school careers, but not before winning at least another game Tuesday against Mark Twain.

North Callaway celebrated Senior Night by recognizing the accomplishments seniors and by winning its Eastern Missouri Conference matchup 4-1 against Mark Twain.

Schmauch led the team with her seven sparkling innings, allowing four hits and one unearned run while striking out four. She has covered 86 of the team's 93 innings in the circle for North Callaway (5-12, 5-4 EMO) this season, after only throwing 17 innings in her first three seasons. Schmauch has completed eight games and throwing two shutouts and one no-hitter.

At the plate, Schmauch would drive in one run, along with her fellow senior Eaker, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a triple. Eaker has hit .308 this season and .277 for her career. Sophomore Corynne Miller would also go 2-for-3 with an RBI while sophomore Brianna Prosser finish 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Mark Twain (7-15, 3-6 EMO) tied the game at 1 in the fifth before North Callaway scored three runs in the sixth.

Head coach Mariah McKee said the team also played good defense, only committing two errors.

"It was a real good victory on senior night," she said. "All the seniors played a really good game, especially on the defensive side with some great plays."

McKee also said it was good to win in conference play, after losing at Silex, and looks forward to the finale of North Callaway's conference and regular season schedule at 5 p.m. Thursday when the Ladybirds host Bowling Green (16-8, 8-1 EMO).
