Westminster's Powell-Qualo performs on national stage in high jump

Westminster's Avylina Powell-Qualo competed in the high jump Friday morning at the NCAA Division III National Championship, setting the 11th-best mark out of 19 competitors.

Powell-Qualo was able to clear 1.64 meters after clearing 1.70 meters April 22 to qualify for the meet.

This caps a record-setting season for Powell-Qualo as she broke the 38-year-old school high jump record set by Marguerite Donovan in 1983. Powell-Qualo also earned SLIAC first-team all-conference and won the conference high jump championship at the conference meet.

She is a two-sport athlete who transferred in after her freshman year was spent at Evangel University. In basketball, Powell-Qualo was a member of the SLIAC championship team and was named second team all-conference.
