JEFFERSON CITY - South Callaway junior Brendon Mealy set a personal-best in the boys pole vault, earning all-state honors Friday in the Class 2 state track and field championships at Adkins Stadium.

Mealy cleared a height of 12 feet, 0.5 inches to finish in eighth place out of 16 state qualifiers in the pole vault.

Mealy successfully cleared his first attempts at 11-1 and 11-7 to begin the event. He then cleared 11-9.75 and 12-0.5 on his second attempt at each height, but he missed on all three attempts at 12-3.25 to end his day.

In the pole vault, Mealy was one of three competitors to go out at 12-0.5. Putnam County's Jonathon Knowles finished in seventh place with fewer misses, but Mearly edged Monroe City's Connor Pfaff for the final spot on the state podium, as Pfaff needed multiple attempts to clear 11-1 and 11-7.

Mealy's previous personal-best in the pole vault was 11-11.75, set back in March at North Callaway's Thunderbird Open.

Mealy accounted for the Bulldogs' only point in the final team standings, putting them in 57th place. Father Tolton won the Class 2 state team title with 44 points, while Highland and Fayette tied for second with 42 points and Lutheran North was third with 39 points.

South Callaway's other state qualifier, sophomore Kyle Dickinson, finished in 12th place in the boys discus with a throw of 130-7.

Dickinson's top throw came on his first of four attempts. He threw 120-3, 118-10 and 124-0 on his next three tries.

Dickinson's personal-best in the discus this season was 139-4.
