This column serves as a spotlight, highlighting the everyday people who work and live in Callaway County. The Fulton Sun takes a moment with someone who is not usually featured in the news but is just as instrumental in making our community the strong and beautiful place we all know and love.
Jacob Gayler was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is a steam plant operator at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Gayler, his wife, Mandy, and their daughter, Hattie, moved to the Millersburg area last year from the Columbia area. His parents live near Carrington.
Q: Who inspires you most?
My family. They keep me going - they're the important part.
Q: What is something you are proud of?
I'm proud of my wife and all of the things she's overcome (including heart surgery) to get where she's at. We've had a lot of trials that life has given us, but we keep going.
Q: What in your life has been the most fulfilling?
Watching my family succeed. We started with nothing, but we keep getting better and better each day.
Q: If you can do any job in the world, what would it be?
Pro bass fisherman. I love bass fishing - just hunting and fishing, and being outdoors. We're not video-game people.
Q: What is a job you wouldn't want to do?
A desk job. I would get content and lazy - I like being outside.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Callaway County?
There are a lot more freedoms here than in Boone County.
