Girls Basketball: Miller leads Macon past North Callaway 57-27

Reigning all-state player Lexi Miller is all Macon needed Monday.

North Callaway was facing No. 2 seed Macon as the No. 7 seed in the first round of the Central Invitational. The Tigerettes defeated the Ladybirds 57-27, as Miller outscored North Callaway with her game-high 30 points.

Miller scored 14 of Macon's 19 points in the first quarter and 19 of its 29 points in the first half, giving the Tigerettes (4-0) a 29-15 halftime lead. Miller went 3-for-5 from 3-point range and 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

North Callaway (2-2) was led in scoring and rebounding by senior Kyanne Kellerman, who finished with eight points and four rebounds.

Head coach Tim Turlington said there isn't anything to be alarmed about before North Callaway's next game at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against Harrisburg (2-1), which lost 47-33 to Hallsville (4-1) in Monday's first round.

"We played well at times," Turlington said. "We'll keep improving, and we'll be OK."

In the boys junior varsity tournament at North Callaway, the Thunderbirds lost its first game to Montgomery County 40-29. Freshman Levi Drake led North Callaway with 11 points in the losing effort.

North Callaway is set play South Callaway in the consolation game at 6 p.m. Wednesday after the Bulldogs lost their first-round contest with Hallsville 46-36. The Indians will play Montgomery County in the championship game after the conclusion of the third-place game around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
