Fulton wrestles to fourth place in Fort Zumwalt North Tournament

The Fulton wrestling team is off to a strong start this season.

After the boys won their first two duals last Tuesday 46-38 against Eldon and 48-30 against Missouri Military Academy, the Hornets finished fourth out of 19 schools Saturday at the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament in O'Fallon.

Fulton had three wrestlers place first in their respective weight classes, including senior Owen Uhls, senior Josh Dunmire and freshman Cole Blattner.

Uhls posted a 4-0 record at 138 pounds, winning all four of his matches by fall. He pinned Pacific's Warren Fiedler in 1:19 in the championship match.

Dunmire also finished 4-0 at 220, winning two matches by fall. In the title match, he won a 5-1 decision against Capital City's Hurley Jacobs.

Blattner had a 3-0 record at 106, recording one pin. He claimed an 8-2 victory against Hannibal's Reign Creech in the first-place match.

As a team, Fulton had 127 points and was 30 points behind third-place Lindbergh. Capital City won the tournament team title with 204.5 points, while Hannibal took second with 161.5 points.

Freshman Gunner Holt and sophomore Elijah Brocksmith each had fourth-place finishes while senior Jacob Barnes had a fifth-place finish.

Holt had a 1-2 record at 132, winning his one match by fall, and Brocksmith was 2-2 at 170 with a win by fall and an overtime victory. Barnes finished 4-1 at 152 with three pins.

Senior Kai Foster placed sixth at 126 with a 2-2 record and two pins, while freshman Makoa Castillo was 0-2 at 113 and freshman Aaron Corey was 0-2 at 182.

The Fulton boys and girls will wrestle in a dual at 5:45 p.m. today at Jefferson City.
