North Callaway girls take runner-up spot at California meet

CALIFORNIA - The North Callaway girls track and field team had strong performances Tuesday in the Guy Rush Memorial meet, resulting in a runner-up finish.

The Lady Thunderbirds tallied 122 points to end up behind the Capital City girls' total of 212.5 points. New Bloomfield was sixth in the team standings with 56 points.

Capital City also claimed the boys team title with 197.5 points, while North Callaway was third with 119 and New Bloomfield fourth with 98.

The North Callaway girls were victorious in the 4x200-meter relay. Corynne Miller, Taylor Head, Kyanne Kellerman and Makenna Allen ran the event in 1:53.74 to claim the top spot.

Head and Miller added more points for the Lady Thunderbirds in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Head was second in the 200 in 28.95 seconds, while Miller placed third in 29.61 seconds. In the 100, Head was third in 13.60 seconds and Miller placed fifth in 14.11 seconds.

Pressley Schmauch earned North Callaway 16 points by finishing second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:50.37 and taking the runner-up spot in the 3,200 in 13:03.55.

Third-place finishers for North Callaway were Lydia Becker in the 400-meter run (1:10.41), Ryelle Schmauch in the pole vault (8 feet) and Trinity Brush in the discus (91-5).

For the New Bloomfield girls, Aislin Jennings placed second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.61 seconds and Mikaela Lemelin was third in the 3,200 in 13:31.20.

A pair of North Callaway boys earned a first-place result. Josh Selby won the javelin with a throw of 141-7 and Drew Rohrbach cleared 10-6 in the pole vault to win.

Selby added a third-place finish in the discus with a toss of 117-3.

The Thunderbirds had a handful of runner-up finishers, including Cody Cash in the 100 (11.71 seconds), Sergio Moreno in the triple jump (36-7.5) and Caleb Rohrbach in the shot put (43-5.75).

Adding third-place finishes for North Callaway were Cash in the 200 (23.73 seconds), Lane Kimbley in the 3,200 (11:03.16) and Brendan Reinhard in the high jump (5-9.75).

Caleb Distler and Nathan Hinrichs combined for 36 points for the New Bloomfield Wildcats.

Distler won the 1,600 in 4:29.98 with Hinrichs right behind with a time of 4:31.13.

In the 3,200, Hinrichs clocked in at 9:45.51 to win and Distler was second in 10:44.54.

Distler, Hinrichs, Jace Pitzen and Brian Figard ran the 4x800 in 8:51.30 to win the event.

Adam Deppe scored 14 points for the Wildcats, including a runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 19-11.75.

New Bloomfield will compete Friday in the South Callaway Initational.

North Callaway's next event is Tuesday when it hosts the Eastern Missouri Conference meet.
