College Baseball: Blue Jays drop DH to Fontbonne

The Fontbonne Griffins swept Westminister in a home doubleheader Saturday, as the Blue Jays dropped the first game 4-0 and the second game 7-6.

Westminister (9-12, 6-8 SLIAC) was held to just two hits in the first game, as Fontbonne's Luke Summers threw a complete game, walking one, hitting one and striking out nine.

Coltin Green singled to left in the seventh inning to break up the no-hitter, and Austin Mayton singled to lead off the eighth inning.

Chase Holder took the loss for the Blue Jays, throwing six innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Payton Whitehead drove in three runs for Westminister in the second game while hitting 2-for-5, hitting a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the third to give the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead after Parker Schnieders reached on a fielder's choice, Steven Diaz walked and Bryce McKinnon singled.

After Fontbonne re-took the lead in the fourth and added to the lead in the fifth, Schnieders led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run, his third of the season. Diaz, McKinnon and Whitehead followed with singles, and Hunter Mulholland hit a two-run single to cut the lead to one but was thrown out at second.

The Owls will host the Griffins for two more games today, starting at noon.
