The Playhouse Cafe is open for business.

For the past several weeks, the Playhouse Café has been offering coffee, baked goods and sandwiches.

On Thursday afternoon, members of the community gathered for a ribbon-cutting to welcome the new business, which is located in the Brick District Playhouse on Court Street.

Allan Hubbard is the new café's general manager and chef. The café is a project of the Brick District Playhouse Board of Directors, which has made recent progress in restoring the theater.

Board president Tom Riley joked Thursday about the struggles of opening a restaurant during a pandemic.

"We did what we have to do to keep the doors open and to get ready for when COVID-19 is done, so thank you all for your support," Riley said.
