The New Bloomfield Board of Aldermen gathered in the New Bloomfield High School cafeteria Monday evening to swear in returning members for another term.
At the meeting, the aldermen sat far from each other, with almost every member set up alone at a separate table. Meetings are usually at City Hall, a space too small to comfortably spread everyone.
Mayor Terry Shaw and aldermen Gary Hoelscher and Rosemary Augustine were all up for re-election during the April 7 municipal election - no one filed to challenge any of the incumbents.
In 2015, voters chose to allow the city to forgo municipal elections when the number of candidates who file to run is equal to the number of positions up for election.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson postponed the municipal election until June 2. Because New Bloomfield is not having an election, the city did not have to wait until the delayed election date to swear in the officials.
The board also elected alderman Gary Hoelscher as mayor pro tem.
