Fulton man arrested on numerous charges

The Fulton Police Department arrested a 31-year-old Fulton man on multiple charges Tuesday night, including endangering the welfare of a child and kidnapping.

According to a department news release, FPD officers investigated a domestic assault at 8:42 p.m. Tuesday on King Street. Christopher W. Cornett grabbed the victim by the throat and covered their mouth to muffle screams.

Cornett then picked up a small child, retrieved a knife and placed it against his own throat. He also gained control of the victim's cell phone to prevent any calls for help, police stated.

FPD officers were able to arrest Cornett and the child was not injured during the incident. Cornett faces the following charges: first-degree burglary, armed criminal action, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree domestic assault.

Cornett was taken to the Callaway County Jail and is being held without bond.
