Many local businesses have donated items and gift certificates to the Callaway County Chamber of Commerce for its Lovin' Local Giveaways.

Every day from Sunday until Feb. 14, the Callaway County Chamber of Commerce will be partnering with a local business for a Facebook giveaway.

"The goal of the Lovin' Local Giveaway is to promote our small businesses all year-round," Chamber of Commerce marketing and special event coordinator Justis Smith said.

Members of the public will have the chance to win prizes ranging from chocolate-covered strawberries, blankets and coolers to a free painting session or a lawn-control treatment.

To participate, the chamber asks people like, share and comment on a giveaway post. The chamber will then enter the names of each participant into a raffle. Winners will be announced on Facebook Live the next day.

"People shop a lot in the summer, but we wanted to give a spotlight to our small businesses during the rest of the year, in February," Smith said.

One of the chamber's goals is to promote and support local businesses, but this is the first year it has hosted a campaign of online giveaways.

"We're trying out this new technique, and next year, we'll be looking to make it even bigger if we see that support from people," Smith said.

Smith said chamber members have been enthusiastic about the giveaway campaign.

"We had people say, this is such a great idea, thank you for thinking of us," Smith said. "I think I sent the email at 4:30 p.m. and five people had already signed up by 5 p.m."

Rooster Creek Company is one of the businesses that decided to participate. Michael Cuno, whose wife, Teresa Cuno, owns the quilt store, helped coordinate the donation of a gift certificate to the giveaway.

"Anytime you can support the chamber plus support the business, that's very important," Michael said. "Especially in this day and age with the competition from mail and online shopping, it's good to get people in the store to see what we have."

There will be 14 total giveaways, but prizes might include multiple items. So far, 23 local businesses have donated an item.

"It's a way for them to give love back to the community and businesses can get their name out, but also the community gets to see that they support shopping local," Smith said.
