High school girls' basketball: Emerson paces New Bloomfield girls in SMC victory over Linn

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Sophomore forward Ellie Emerson tallied 15 points as New Bloomfield held off Linn in a 53-49 SMC victory in a matchup between Lady Wildcats on Wednesday night.

The contest was even at 10-all after one quarter, but New Bloomfield (8-15, 2-5 Show-Me Conference) outscored Linn 18-13 in the second quarter to carry a 28-23 lead into halftime. New Bloomfield took a 40-33 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Freshman guard Mikah Edwards produced a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for New Bloomfield.

"We played a more complete game," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "We were able to put four quarters together. We also did a good job of managing the clock at the end of the game and hit free throws down the stretch."

Aushara Hostetler topped Linn with a game-high 23 points.

New Bloomfield rolled to a 40-17 victory in the junior varsity game. Freshman guard Brooklyn Smith supplied 16 points and freshman guard Brinley Dysart contributed nine.

New Bloomfield closed out the regular season at home with an SMC matchup against St. Elizabeth on Thursday night. Results were not available at press time.
