College women's basketball: William Woods 89, Park University 56

The Lady Owls started fast and didn't back off in a commanding American Midwest Conference victory over the Lady Pirates on Tuesday night at Anderson Arena.

The win was the third straight and 14th in the last 15 games for William Woods University (22-5, 16-5 AMC), which swept the season series with Park University.

The Lady Owls bolted to a 25-9 advantage after one quarter Tuesday night and outscored the Lady Pirates 24-14 in the second quarter to open up a 49-23 lead at halftime. William Woods then outscored Park 25-15 in the third quarter to go up 74-38.

Senior guard Peyton Greenlee tallied 14 points to pace four players in double figures for the Lady Owls, who shot 62 percent (31-of-50) from the field and weathered 24 turnovers.

Senior guard Jazlyn Drake was next with 12 points for William Woods, which also shot a sizzling 96 percent (21-of-22) from the free-throw line. Sophomore forward Kasey Hazell and junior guard Tori Nesslage contributed 11 points apiece.

Senior guard Kaycee Gerald pulled down a game-high six rebounds to steer the Lady Owls to a resounding 44-18 advantage on the boards.

Kiana Smith finished with a game-high 18 points for Park (6-17, 3-17), which shot just 33 percent (21-of-63) as a team. Destinee Robinson chipped in with 13 points.

William Woods travels to No. 12 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University for an AMC showdown at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Owls clipped Freed-Hardeman 70-69 on Jan. 9 in Fulton.
