Callaway County ambulance involved in Columbia accident

Callaway County EMS Medic 3 was involved in a rollover accident at about 2:19 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and Old Highway 63 in Columbia.

The medic unit was transporting a patient with a serious medical condition while using lights and sirens, according to a news release posted to the service's Facebook page. The ambulance was staffed by a two-person crew.

Units from the Columbia Police Department, Columbia Fire Department, University EMS and Boone Hospital EMS responded to the accident.

The original patient was extricated from our ambulance and transported to University Hospital. The two EMS crew members were transported with minor injuries to University Hospital.

The accident investigation is being handled by the Columbia Police Department, according to the news release. Callaway County EMS will conduct an internal investigation.
