The Fulton Public Schools Foundation's new educator hall of fame will get its first four inductees Saturday evening.
Pat Grubb, Jane Hall, Bob Fisher and Billie Taylor will be the hall's first members, the latter two being inducted posthumously.
"We've honored alumni with a hall of fame for several years now," Kathy Richey Liddle, Foundation executive director said. "We felt it was important to also honor past educators who've contributed so much to our schools, students and community."
Members of the public nominated many potential honorees through Facebook. The one criteria, Liddle said, is the teacher must have spent at least 15 years with Fulton Public Schools.
"We had this vast list we had to choose from, and it was difficult to narrow them down," she said. "We'll have a good list to start from next year."
She noted members of the committee who chose the honorees felt it was important to honor teachers both living and deceased.
At Saturday evening's Foundation Gala, each of the nominees will be honored, along with this year's alumni hall of fame inductees. Living honorees will have the chance to give a brief speech, as will family members of Fisher and Taylor.
"We'll have a full house (at the gala)," Liddle promised.
Those wishing to nominate teachers for next year's gala can email their suggestions to [email protected]. Current teachers may be eligible, as long as they've been with the district for at least 15 years.
Liddle noted the hall of fame will be hosted electronically on the Foundation's website, fultonschoolsfoundation.org.
The gala kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at Westminster College's Backer Dining Hall. Tickets cost $50 per person.
