State troopers to crack down on DWIs

Capt. Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, said the troop will conduct two DWI saturation operations sometime this month.

Troop F also is reponsible for Callaway and Cole counties.

The areas selected for enforcement are based on a high number of drinking-related crashes, high number of contacts with drivers who have been drinking, and officers' input as to probable contact with DWI violators.

"Special enforcement operations such as these enable the Missouri State Highway Patrol to enhance our efforts in reducing the number and severity of traffic crashes in Missouri," Turner said. "Driving while impaired continues to be a major contributing factor of fatal traffic crashes in Missouri."

The only 100-percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens, troopers often state. Everyone in a vehicle should be properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
